Pitino will get a $400,000 raise from the school, the Pioneer Press reported Thursday. That will bring Pitino’s total compensation package to about $1.6 million annually, as the initial contract he signed two years ago allotted a $500,000 base salary and $700,000 in additional compensation each year.

Now 32 years old, Pitino replaced Tubby Smith in April 2013 and has a 43-28 record with the Gophers. Minnesota won the NIT championship in Pitino’s first season but did not make it to the postseason last year after going 18-15, including 6-12 in the Big Ten.

The Pioneer Press reports Pitino’s new deal will include two years added to the end of his current contract, so it should run through the 2020-21 season.
