The Serbian pair lost to their Brazilian rivals in straight sets – going down in a 4-6, 4-6, loss to the Brazilians, who each have Grand Slam titles to their credit – Melo in the men’s doubles, and Soares in the Mixed. Djokovic’s partner Zimonjic does too – the 13th ranked doubles player has won three Grand Slam doubles titles, two of them at Wimbledon.
Following his loss in the doubles, Djokovic has declared he will not participate in the mixed doubles event. That means his run at the Olympic Games at Rio 2016 has now ended.
India have all but crashed out of the tennis, with losses for the Leander Paes-Rohan Bopanna combine in the men’s doubles, and for Sania Mirza and Prarthana Thombare in the women’s.
